Tips to Help Your Children Learn Through Play

Never underestimate the power of play. Not only does it help your child develop cognitive skills like counting and problem-solving; it also enhances their physical abilities. Like when they are learning how to balance blocks one over the other. Also running around in the playground helps in developing their muscular and mental stimuli. You may notice that your child interacts with his/her toy like a real person, and this, in turn, develops their vocabulary. Playing together in a group enhances their social skills. Children at various ages tend to learn naturally through play. It’s a way for them to explore, express their curiosity, make sense of their surroundings and have fun doing it.

As a parent, you are the biggest motivator for your child’s learning. So, make sure that they get enough time to play in order to help promote their cognitive, language, physical, social, and emotional development. Remember your own childhood, and how playing just came naturally to you. Give them the time to play and discover all that they can do when given the opportunity. Children reinforce their learning in multiple areas while playing. It gives them a place and time for learning; something that cannot be achieved in a classroom. For example, while playing house, your child can write down what needs to be bought for ration, what’s the kitchen menu, what costs how much and what will be the expenditure. Play provides rich learning opportunities and leads to building positive reinforcements.

Play-based learning is increasingly gaining popularity nowadays. In such an environment, the instructor deals with learning within structures but gets it done playfully and loosely with a particular focus on a certain goal. When you take a play-based approach into kids learning program and combine various subjects into it, you end up creating an educational experience that’s greater than the sum of its parts. It helps the child develop their critical-thinking skills, expand their range of knowledge, increase their social and emotional awareness, enhance their language abilities – all without even realising how much they have learned.

A child’s curiosity is at its peak during their toddler years, and there is no better way to capitalise on this growing interest other than through play-based learning. Through play and exposure to your child, the brain is designed and it gives birth to many skills such as creativity, communication, problem-solving, emotional regulation and relationship building.

It’s this anxiety-free way of learning that helps your child learn and absorb at their own pace. That’s why after-school programs like Kumon focuses so much on making maths and English lessons more fun and less stressful. The students are provided with small-step worksheets to enhance their work skills gradually. With a healthy self-study program in place, there are instructors who are there to guide the kids when they get stuck. This results in a child who inculcates a healthy self-learning habit having the confidence, aptitude and attitude to take on the world of English and Math like a simple game. Now is your turn to help your child enjoy the process of learning and have fun with words and numbers. They deserve it, and so do you.
